The Adirondack has just departed Montreal West for New York City, powered by PA-4 #16. The Montreal Olympics were on at this time, but I admit I was more interested in getting a PA.

  1. Railwayguy, thanks for your comments.

  2. James, very nice picture ! Made a number of trips to Montreal to photograph these classic D&H PA’s. In my opinion , the D&H paint scheme was the best. Also went on a road trip with Omer Levallee, Ken Heard and Ed Jordan into New York State , chasing and photographing PA’s – was a most enjoyable day ! Great composition, the way you included the Montreal West interlocking tower, crossing gates and interlocking signals. Well done and thanks for sharing.

  3. Great shot. In 1976, I travelled on CN from Edmonton to St. John, N.B. and both directions, I timed my connections for the longer layover in Montreal. I was a lot younger and fitter at the time as I ran back and forth between CN Central station and Windsor station based on getting the maximum shots based on arrivals and departures at both locations in the timetables. I caught the D & H train arriving in Montreal. Beautiful equipment!

  4. If you have to have Diesels, at least make one a PA!

  5. Awesome photo of the most beautiful locomotive built! Great you got to capture her in her glory.
I shot a picture of her in the museum in Mexico looking not so great. So glad that at least 2 have been saved.

  6. Very nice.

  7. A classic, a Montreal West classic, and an angle I’ve never seen before (and no longer doable I believe).
