Two Tier 4s make light work of a 26 car L546, rolling towards Squamish through the backyards of West Vancouver and over Wood Creek bridge at Mile 10. In the old days, location used to have a wood trestle which made quite the photo, but now with the forest growing in it's hard to even notice the concrete replacement!

CN has been desperately short of power lately, and management has been drawing locomotives from anywhere possible, resulting in interesting additions to the roster, such as former ATSF SD75M's, CSX/CR C40-8W's, CITI ES44AC's, and in this case, a former GE Tier 4 demo unit that has made its way to the West Coast on a sulphur train, seen here switching in CN's Lynn Creek Yard.

With a chilly outflow from Whistler blowing through Paradise Valley out to Howe Sound, CN's daily southbound for the for the former BCR lines south of Prince George (aka the Cariboo Division) rolls down the main at Cheakamus after spending an hour negotiating the Cheakamus Canyon.

At 0830 on a spectacular Vancouver morning, CP was hard at work getting a twelve car Royal Canadian Pacific train—the first cruise of the season—prepped for the party of lucky travellers who would spend the day lounging and sipping drinks as the scenery. A half hour later, the classic consist was rolling out of Vancouver to start the first leg of its journey nearly 400 miles to Revelstoke.

A recently arrived L546 sits in track four of Squamish Yard with old resident returning for a visit. 4610 led 546 from North Vancouver to Squamish a few hours earlier, and upon arrival came into four and stopped. Now, 571 (Squamish-Prince George)'s crew has come to work and is starting to roll through the yard on 2861 to take charge of 546's power, switch, and lead north on the former BCR. <br> See my profile for the photo of 571 charging north.

571 was an interesting train on New Years Day 2017. After the crew arrived to work in Squamish, they got on their power (CN 2861 and 8816) and coupled to 546, which incidentally had just arrived a few hours earlier BCR 4610 in the lead position. The railfans of Squamish held their breath as the crew discussed putting their power in the lead, or that of 546, which would have meant a BCR unit leading a train in her home territory twelve and a half years after the provincial carrier was absorbed into CN. After much debate, the crew settled on 2861 to do the honours. Too bad. After that, 571 started their work in the yard, and we left the yard for Brackendale, as we knew the train would soon depart Squamish for Lillooet. <br> Seen in this shot is 571 kicking up a snowsquall as it picks up speed on the straightaway in Brackendale. Today's train was light, a mere 1600 feet, consisting of 21 empty gondolas bound for the copper loadout at Gibraltar near Williams Lake.

Squamish took on a very North Pole look this past weekend, which was last for the WCRA's Polar Express excursion which took Believers for a 60-minute ride from the Railway Heritage Park through CN's former BC Rail yard, and down the Squamish Terminals spur to the estuary of the Squamish River. Hot chocolate, cookies, and fun with various characters from the movie on the train was all included with a ticket.

With a single tank car, CN's Seymour Branchline switch job waits as its crew contemplates their next move. The Seymour Industrial Branch serves three chemical plants on Vancouver's North Shore, and generates a fair amount of traffic going east via the Yale Sub, and south via BNSF's New Westminster Sub, and keeps this crew busy sorting incoming and outgoing cars for hours every evening.
