Two GP40-2L are sitting at Canadian Nationals North End, and thus at the northernmost point of the North American rail network. Only near isolated Alaska Railroad reaches farther north. Due to its northern location, it's not realy dark on that Hay River NWT evening at 2216.

Like on most days in 1998, a FP7A CAT-rebuild was assigned to Ontario Northlands Northlander service on that September day. After the daytime run from Cochrane, the train is leaving Union station for Mimico to get serviced for the nocturnal run back up north.
