Powerful Chinook winds roared through at over 80 km/h, turning a day of train photography into an adventure. Thankfully, the air stayed warm despite the intensity. CP 8732 leads this eastbound mixed consist, with a pair of SD40-2s trailing behind the main power hauling loaded ballast. Today marked five years since my kidney transplant — and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than doing something I love.

Lots of fog and hoar frost the past couple days in Calgary have coated everything. It looked really pretty. I went down from my house to see if I could capture it with a train. This westbound grain train is approaching Keith and it will take the siding, to allow an eastbound to pass on by.

Living in Alberta, I do not get to see these new Via Venture passenger trains. While home visiting family in Ingersoll, I heard this train was coming through. It was running late and that gave me time to get to the station to see this new train. I was hoping to see one of these while I was there.

I don't think I'll ever see 3 UP SD9043MAC's run together like this again. I remember chasing this train from Fort McLeod Alberta to Coleman. It was a fantastic summer day. This train is just west of Pincher Creek. Union Pacific run through power was and I believe still is common on the CP Crowsnest Sub.

Slowing with the next signal showing advance clear to stop, CP 7034 leads solo an empty grain train east. It will stop at the next signal as the Exshaw switcher was working in the block ahead.

Departing Ingersoll after picking up some propane tank cars out of the siding. Consist includes newly painted 1249. Will be off to work Putnam and St.Thomas. I was only home for a couple of days and only had one shot to catch a passing OSR train before heading off to the airport back to Calgary later that afternoon.

I woke up today with sunny skies, though frost could be seen on the rooftops around my house as the temperature was only about 0. Blue skies led me west towards Canmore. As I was driving I saw some low clouds, thought they might add to any photos I get. Get to Exshaw and the clouds were completely covering the sky. Took about 3 hours to clear out. After that is when I got this long eastbound with a BNSF second unit in.

I've heard chatter on local Facebook group about the CP business train doing a trip to Banff and back today. Couldn't make it out during the day thanks to work, but after I hopped on my bike, took a quick 5 minute trackside found the best lighting I could. Got lucky it hadn't come by yet, only waited 15 minutes. Here it is passing over the twin bridges in Calgary headed back to Ogden. CP 4106 and 1401.

Shortly after leaving Field, 8899 is slowly moving towards Lake Louise with CP 101. Two more westbound trains are waiting just further up past here and will move out after 101 passes. I thought the sunlight reflecting off the snow onto the train gave this an interesting look.

Earlier this year I was very fortunate to get a kidney transplant from a living donor, the most amazing person I know. 8 months later I feel amazing and out doing what I love. I even recently made the trip home to Ingersoll from Calgary to visit my family. A short walk out the door gets me to mile 11 of the St.Thomas sub. The train on it's way to St.Thomas has 1245 & 1210 leading 5 tanks cars and a hopper. The sun was short lived and snow squalls moved in, but made my day to catch this on my short trip home.

When I go out train watching, I like to make a full day of it. This day I got up at 5am, out the door for the 2 hour or so drive down to Crowsnest Pass area. Made it to this location where I caught this eastbound with Turtle mountain and Frank Slide as a nice backdrop. This was around 9am, thinking that wow this might be a good day. Train even had a BNSF pusher on the end. The next train that would come through did so at 6pm. Thankfully I am a very patient person. Made it home at 10:30pm, 3 trains the whole day. Still enjoyed my day down there.

I haven't been out this way in a while, or out photographing at all. Life gets in the way. Well, I had the day off work and decided to take a drive to see what I could catch. Found CN 115 going south towards Calgary. 2538 was leading, with 2447 and 2152 trailing. Just north of Trochu Alberta.
