With a healthy cut of boxcars on the head end, train 420 is approaching the junction at Romford. There the train will pass from the Cartier Sub to the Parry Sound Sub and continue on its journey to Toronto. 7030 wears the shield of Lord Strathcona's Horse on its nose - the second CP locomotive to do so following in the footsteps of ES44AC 8939.

A late morning departure from North Bay allowed for some decent light on train 450 as it passed through South River. The old station, built in 1884 by the Northern and Pacific Junction Railway, and derelict coaling tower stand guard as a testament to the town's railway history.

CP 2263 leads TE11 over the joined rails of the Dunnville Spur. Having finished work at Port Maitland the train is about to pass through Dunnville on its way back to Welland Yard.

TE11 passes by the decommissioned signal pole at mile 10 of the Dunnville Spur. This was a lucky catch, as I was parked near Feeder Yard hoping for the PCHR to make an appearance. While waiting there I overheard on the scanner the Welland Yard crew tell the RTC that they were about to head to "port" so I quickly changed my plans for the day.

While not as successful as some documenting the CN detours over the Ontario Northland, I did manage to shoot a slightly overcast meet between ONT 313 and detour I912 in Kapuskasing. Here I912, a 81 platform intermodal train led by CN engines 2605 and 2598, holds the main and waits for 313 to take the siding. Once clear, I912 would continue eastwards and 313 would work the yard before proceeding to Hearst.

450 has parked its train at Martins and is now waiting in the siding for northbound detour 131 to pass. This was a beautiful day to be out with my young son and we met a number of friendly railfans throughout the morning and afternoon. The next day my three year old asked how his new friend, Wayne, was doing...

The Hearst to Cochrane triweekly train makes its way across the Groundhog River west of Fauquier. 514 departed Hearst shortly after 0600 with 22 cars and subsequently lifted an additional 16 in Kapuskasing before continuing eastwards. It's a fun chase as the train is limited to around 30km/hr and there are many interesting bridges and small towns that the railway passes through. As seen beside the railway, Highway 11 also passes over the Groundhog River via a two-span steel truss bridge and work is well under way to replace this aging 80 year old structure. The piers and headers of the new bridge can been seen on the far right.

CN 105 rounds the bend at CN Falding with 155 intermodal cars. The train would soon come to a complete stop while they attempted to contact the CP RTC to obtain clearance on the CP Parry Sound Sub so they could enter the DRZ at Boyne/Reynolds.

Matching multimark SD40-2s spot an Ontario Northland boxcar on one of the back tracks in Sudbury Yard. I had hoped to shoot 6055 and 6069 on the Levack Turn but they didn't venture out of the yard on this Saturday shift.

U55 has arrived at CP Sprecher with 46 loaded ore cars from Levack. 6018 and 5035 are now pulling away from the train and will return to Sudbury Yard and soon Vale power will arrive to pull the string of ore cars towards the mill. The track in the foreground is part of the Vale Railway and connects the Clarabelle Mill complex with the Frood Mine area.
