In this March 1964 photo, UP FA-1 #1627 and two FB-1s arrive at the north end of CP’s Windsor Yard. Tucked in behind the Alco cab units are two National de Mexico RS-11s #7291 and 7292 built by Montreal Locomotive Works. (Note the MLW representative on steps of NdeM 7291). The following morning, the RS11s were ferried across the Detroit River and interchanged with the Wabash which would take them to Kansas City.' height='150' width='200' />
The prospect of taking an action photo of a MLW-built cab unit would usually get the adrenalin flowing, but quite the contrary on this occasion. It is 31 March 1989, and the last day VIA FPAs can lead passenger trains in Canada. An overcast sky and faint drizzle only add to the melancholy mood. Westbound VIA Train #83 passes with a pair of Montreal-built beauties on the point. An eastbound counterpart is led by a pair of the competitor's cab units. In a few short hours, the curtain will be drawn on a disappearing railroad scene, but for a brief moment FPA4s #6764 and 6780 are center stage.
