VIA Rail #54 left Toronto attached to the rear of VIA #56. The two trains were separated in the yard west of the Brockville depot. Immediately after, #56 scooted to Montreal without stopping at the Brockville station. #54 is now picking up travellers at the depot. It is due in Ottawa at 13:58 and in Montréal at 16:07. Latter time is 1h44 later than #56.

VIA Rail trains 52 and 50 operate joined from Toronto to Brockville. They usually are separated at Manitoba yard, west of Brockville Station, but today they are being split at the station. #52 (the front) does not pick up passengers at Brockville. It is due in Montréal at 11:55. #50 (the rear) picks up riders at Brockville and travels via Ottawa, where it is due at 11:12, to Montréal, which it is scheduled to reach at 13:18.

The southbound Northlander (Train 698) at Cochrane, nine minutes before departure. Most passengers are already on board the two coaches. The diner (last car) will open soon after departure. The sign above the station entrance has symbols for three services available but omits the restaurant. The icon for passenger service remains the now rare “A” unit. The freight shed is visible in the distance.

Southbound Northlander (Train 698) at Cochrane, waiting to start its journey. “STOP” signs of protest against the Ontario government's plan to privatize the Ontario Northland were displayed by many homes and businesses in Cochrane, as well as on Ontario Northland structures and equipment.

The crew of GP38-2 #1808 and SD40-2 #2200 have just yarded their freight train and are moving the power to the far track in front of the Cochrane station where the units will be parked until they are moved to the shop area 45 minutes later.

Clouds gather over the Ontario Northland’s future, following the Ontario government’s announcement in March 2012 of plans to sell the railway to the private sector. GP38-2 #1808 and SD40-2 #2200 have yarded their freight train and wait in front of the Cochrane station to be moved to the shop area.
