The early morning hours at VIA's Toronto Maintenance Centre find numerous pieces of equipment at the ready for upcoming departures to Ottawa, Montreal, Windsor, and New York. The new Siemens Charger sets make up the majority of the scene, including "LUMI" at centre, with stored Budd equipment in the distance beyond the newest delivery or Siemens equipment. Ontario Northland's third and final set of equipment, ONT has just been delivered by and is seen being positioned by VIA 903 after a brief stop at the fuel pad. Note freight equipment from CN L543 in the distance, waiting for the pair of geeps to turn on the wye before returning to Oakville.

Its half past midnight at Kitchener yard. The last GO trains of the evening have cleared the area, and freight action is well underway. L566 slipped out to the Waterloo Spur behind 4906, 7068 shortly before this scene, rushing to clear up and give L533 access to the yard, while L587 with 4125, 4902, and HESR 3510 sat on the ladder. <br><br>With 533 in the siding and their engineer changing ends, 587 tacks the 3510 onto 533's power for movement to G&W's RailSynergy Oshawa operation, then ducks back into the yard to allow the Toronto crew to shove clear of the plant and make their runaround move to the east end of their lift. 587 will begin breaking up the inbound cars as soon as they've cleared the lead.

A pair of former Metrolink F59 locomotive shells, recently purchased by Ontario's Metrolinx, are tied down in the yard at Galt, set off on account of air issues affecting their movement on 2-230. With the issues sorted, setoff complete, and coffees on board, 2-230 finally gets underway towards Toronto.

A set of leased GO Transit units head train 505 west out of Montreal passing through Pointe Claire. CNR H-6-c 4-6-0 1320, an MLW product of 1910, pauses at Wingham with Palmerston – Kincardine mixed train M331. If on time at 1315, the train should be about two thirds of the way through the three hour and five minute journey to the subdivision’s namesake town. Mail and express is exchanged from the RPO car to the baggage cart pulled up alongside it, while a conversation is had with the head end crew. The 1320 has about a year left before scrapping in late 1955, while the mixed train has about five years to go before cancellation upon end of the mail contract in June 1959. GO Transit 564 shoves on the rear of train 3959, making their way west on the GEXR Goderich Sub to tie down at mile 3 during their layover. The train will return west to Toronto early in the evening. <br><br>GO Transit service to Stratford commenced this past week, with equipment using the Goderich Sub as a pullback during the week to clear the plant at Stratford West prior to departing for Toronto. On weekends, the run is flipped, starting out of Toronto, returning east in the evening. <br><br>While today, Stratford is renowned for theatrical performances of the Stratford Festival, it of course relied heavily on the Grand Trunk Railway during the early years. While heading up the branch, the equipment passes the GTR shops (behind the photographer,) as well as the residential neighbourhood along St. David Street. The housing you see here, as well as that on the four streets off to the left/south - McKenzie, Argyle, Stratford, and Nelson Streets - were constructed circa 1909 as part of the GTR's shop expansion, with properties available for GTR shop employees on a rent - to- own basis. Over a century later, the majority of these properties remain as more expansion comes to the local railway scene.

The bright winter sun shines down on Oakville yard, where CN 554 is building their train for Aldershot. Despite the gorgeous weather, a bitter wind was blowing, and I didn't stick around long before retreating back to the warm car.

Excursionists disembark a UCRS trip at Goderich to take in the scene. The trip had operated from Toronto via the Oakville and Dundas subdivisions to reach London, running up to <a href=https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=38375>the GMD plant for a tour.</a> Following the tour, the trip departed London for Hyde Park, taking the Exeter Sub north to Clinton and on to Goderich. While VIA Rail service to Havelock ended in January 1990, passenger trains would once again call the station for one day in 1992. As part of the Havelock centennial celebrations, GO Transit equipment was used to operate three excursions between Havelock and Peterborough. GO F59 550 provided the power for the three car train, with cab car 235 bringing up the rear. CP Rail CEO, Bill Stinson, who passed in May 2026, was also in attendance, travelling with business cars "Assiniboine," "Mount Royal," and "Lacombe." RDC-2 91 was also on hand for the event, as noted in the <a href=https://www.bytownrailwaysociety.ca/phocadownload/branchline/1992/1992-10.pdf#page=19>October 1992 issue of Branchline.</a> <br><br><a href=https://whiteriverdivision.blogspot.com/2018/10/throwback-thursday-go-equipment-in.html>In July 1997,</a> GO equipment would make another visit to Havelock as part of the "Rock 'n Rail" festival, celebrating the mining history of the area. Port Stanley Terminal Railway L3 with London & Port Stanley interurban 14 holds the main at Whites, waiting on the regular train from Port Stanley to clear into the siding. With multiple movements over the Lake Erie Spur today, and a handful of meets, a switch tender spent the day riding the two trains to line up movements at Whites and Port Stanley. Once L1's train is in the clear, switchman Flynn will swing aboard 14 to line L1 into the siding at Port before their arrival.
