On June 25 the train was running approximately 12 hours late. As far as I know the Canadian arrived even later than that in Vancouver. The evening before nobody would or could tell when the train was to leave the next morning. After leaving the motel (the Downtowner Inn, in itself a sight with quite a charming lobby in the style of the very early 1970ies) in the morning the crews were just preparing for the day's trip. It did not take too long for the train to pass through at Koontenay Landing. Luckily the grass on the river bank was quite tall.
