Often during the month of July in the 90’s, with the Budd Plant in Kitchener slowing production for summer shut down, they didn’t require CN service daily, so the 15:30 Job would head to Elmira earlier in the afternoon rather than later in the evening.

This was likely brand new 5629’s first trip down the line as it was released from the GMDD plant in London just over a week prior on June 2, 1996. Once the crew reached the yard, they would lift the loaded Budd automotive frame cars and await the arrival of 89 before proceeding west. In the meantime, the friendly conductor invited several local railfans up to tour the cab of fresh 5629 to get some photos. What great times they were. ' height='150' width='200' />
