The CN 15:30 Kitchener Job is viewed setting-off one loaded lumber car at Fairway Lumber in St. Jacobs on the Waterloo Spur with 7030 and 4141. The job was on their return trip south to Kitchener when they stopped to set-off the car. At the time, the job only operated with two units when it was necessary and on this day, both Nutrite and Sulco Chemicals in Elmira had received several cars. The springtime was always a busy period for Nutrite receiving hoppers.

An extra CPKC Wolverton Job with GP38-2 3040 and GP20C-ECO's 2307 and 2259 is viewed about to cross Greenfield Road in Ayr, Ontario on the Ayr Pit Spur. The crew was returning to Wolverton after setting-off auto racks on the Waterloo Subdivision for the Toyota Plant in Cambridge. However, they had a lengthy stop at Ayr to switch the busy FS Partners facility on the spur.

VIA Rail P42 910 leads one of the last 84’s that I ever photographed with a solid Budd consist in 2025. Since that time, it has happened very seldomly as the new modern Siemens Venture trainsets have primarily taken over Guelph Subdivision trains 84 and 87.

Norfolk Southern C40-9W’s 8914 and 8931 are pictured at Dain City, which was situated near Welland, Ontario. Both NS GE’s are only a few months old having been built in February 1996 and they also have NW caboose 555019 with them. Looking back, this was one area I wish I had more photos of, as the small intermodal yard eventually closed in 1998. Today, this area is still operated by GIO Rail, which services Verbio and SLM Recycling from the Canal Spur.

CP SD40A 6403, C-424 4208 and GP38-2 3072 are pictured waiting to depart Aberdeen Yard in Hamilton, Ontario across from the station building. CP 6403 was originally built as Kansas City Southern SD40 625 in June 1970. It was eventually acquired by SOO Line and became SOO Line 6403.

CP Control Cab 1103 (former C-424 4206) and GP9u 8224 are waiting for their next assignment as CP RDC-2 91 and another RDC languish near the caboose shop at CP’s Toronto Yard in Scarborough, Ontario. Eventually 91 was sent to western Canada where it was stored at CP’s shops in Calgary for possible future restoration. Ultimately, the railway found a new home for it at the Alberta Central Railway Museum where it was renumbered back to its original number 9108 and operates there today.

CN GP9RM 4138 along with 4112 and 4102 are pictured waiting for their next assignments at the MacMillan Yard diesel shop in Vaughan, Ontario. In the future, 4138 would be re-lettered AR Illinois for a starring role in the 1997 Canadian comedy “The Wrong Guy” that was filmed primarily around Toronto and area. Almost three decades later and the unit still retains it’s now fading AR Illinois logo on the nose.
