Sept 18th, the business train came through Springhill Junction again today, this time attached to the end of 120 instead of under its own power. I don't think that's allowed if the passenger cars are occupied. The CN noodle on the long hood has been replaced by a "throwback" herald, similar to what was applied to steam era tenders.

Seen here is the head-end of CN L507 on May 31st 2023, at East Mines trestle on the Springhill sub with CN 8947 and CN 2336 and 280 axles. This was part of a day out with Halifax area railfan Geoff Doane where we chased L507 from East Mines trestle west of Truro NS to the west end of Painsec Junction just a few kms short of Moncton NB.

This was part of a day out with Halifax area railfan Geoff Doane where we chased L507 from East Mines trestle west of Truro NS to the west end of Painsec Junction just a few kms short of Moncton NB.

Seen here is the head-end of CN Z120 on May 31st 2023, at Brookfield NS on the Bedford sub with CN 3101 and CN (ex-CREX) 2761 and 534 axles (DPU CN 3020 is mid-train.) This was part of a day out with Halifax area railfan Geoff Doane where we chased this train from the New Brunswick border close to 140 km to south of Truro. In that distance we shot this train six times then had lunch in Truro and lucked into an encounter with CBNS train 305 arriving in the yard there. This was our final location for Z120, about 2 miles north of the Canada Cement spur.

This location has long been on my bucket list. The picturesque trestle over the Folly River at East Mines NS about 14 rail miles west of Truro NS. February 1st at 2:32 p.m., CN L507 by Oxford Junction, decent sized train. CN SD75I 5798, CN DASH 9-44CW 2666 with 268 axles. This train runs daily from Dartmouth NS to Moncton NS, often stopping to lift traffic from the CBNS railway yard in Truro NS. The tri-level auto carriers originate at Autoport in Dartmouth and most of the mixed freight behind the locomotives came from Truro. See video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWLegxhm-bQ

+ DP CN 3909 facing backwards. Note the improved view at S'Hill Jct thanks to ongoing rail replacement in the siding that has flattened the lineside foliage.

Part of an extended CP Belleville sub chase from 1998
From Trenton ON to Pickering ON, on an unfortunately dull April day.
This is probably train 505 (the successor to old train 927.)
We have SD40-2 #5568 leading RS-18us #1837,1828,1853 and an unidentified C-424..
The waning days of 4-axle MLW power. Even the GMDD leader is now a welcome change from the endless parade of GEs today.

For the first time in a while VIA 15 had some business at Springhill Jct NS today (November 2nd @ 16:20.)
The train was about 30 minutes late. VIA 6406 and 6405 with 68 axles. There is nothing at this location to suggest that passenger trains will stop on request here anymore. Passengers have to book in advance for 14/15, the three times weekly in each direction train between Halifax and Montreal.

The were a number of railfans chasing CN Q123 out of Halifax today, and no wonder.
Lead unit was as-delivered Illinois Central standard cab SD70 1028, followed by CN 2678
and BNSF 4314 trailing with a well loaded 286 axle train.
