After a day of hunting snowplows near Stratford, a quick stop was made in Ingersoll probably for a coffee and a bite to eat before heading back towards the GTA. A stop by the station found the sun setting directly in line with the Dundas Sub and the headlight of VIA No 78 rapidly approaching. I'm guessing the exposure on this Kodachrome 64 slide was a fluke. Sometimes you take the shot and score.

Two GP20C-ECO units 2321-2268 accelerate their short train over to work at Ogden Yard. Not at all looking very ECO, 2321 does its best impersonation of 2860 with a nice cloud of black smoke.

An Eastbound coasts down the grade through Hamilton Jct and on towards the Oakville Sub. During the eventual triple tracking of the Oakville Sub in the 2000's, some bean-counter decided to remove the signal plant at Hamilton Jct and combine it with Bayview. This meant the RTC when giving a headroom light on track 1 at Bayview effectively was unable to line up an Eastbound train on the North track at Copetown, or get a shorter train such as VIA ahead at Bayview (old Ham Jct).

In a cloud of blue diesel exhaust, Conrail YDLN-2 appears to explode from the Detroit River Tunnel into Windsor, Ontario passing beneath the Essex Terminal Railway 'Black Bridge'. The symbol YDLN means the job originated at Lincoln Yard (Y=Yard D=Detroit Div LN=Lincoln Yard)

SOO SD40-2's 6613-6614 claw there way up and out of the Detroit River Tunnel with CP Train 500 from Chicago to Montreal. The train will pass the CN Windsor South (Former CR/PC/NYC) depot before turning down the Electric Yard lead towards Lakeshore and onto the CP Windsor Sub.

"The Penultimate Run". In what was supposed to be the last day of Gio Rail operations North of Welland on the Canal Sub and Grantham Spur in St Catharines, turned out not to be. Upon gathering eight cars, 1859 did what MLW/Alco's love to do, sprung an oil leak. The train was tied down and after repairs the following day the last run did occur. It was not a great day for the railway or myself as earlier I had stopped at the dirt crossing at Hurricane Road to shoot this train and had slipped and fell on some snow covered ice. It was not until I got to Thorold that I realized my phone was missing. I backtracked to Hurricane Road and found my phone in an ice encrusted puddle. Amazingly it still worked albeit a bit glitchy and so I missed them crossing the CN at Glenridge. The hazards of this sport we call Railfanning. Here we find the last Northbound on leap year day Feb 29th 2024 just past Allanburg with four cars for Clearwater Paper.

Nearing the end. On the last day of service on Gio Rail North of Welland we find RS-18 1859 crossing the Old Welland Canal with the final Southbound train on this section of track. The train is crossing a causeway and small bridge that was placed across the Canal as no more ships or Lake Freighters would ever pass this way again, and now it appears that this will now apply to trains.

Lots of snow during the winter of 13-14 as evidenced by the giant pile at the West end of the GO parking lot at Georgetown. Nicknamed "El Capitan' by the locals, it provided some nice elevation for those brave enough to ascend it due to its steepness. Here we see an Eastbound passing by the sheer drop-off led by CN 5695-IC 1009 on Feb 7th 2014.

CN 3015 in Support Our Troops camo paint scheme and 3217 with a CN100 logo lead 562 out of Port Robinson and over the Welland River. The train will stop to set-off at Southern Yard before looping around onto the CP Hamilton Sub at Brookfield and passing beneath the Welland Canal to interchange with Gio Rail at Feeder. After lifting interchange from Gio will return via reverse route to Port Rob and attend to any other switching required in the area.

Heading to YYZ and got a text that the CN EJ&E Heritage unit was leading 421. Bailed off the QEW at Beamsville and only had to wait about ten minutes. Sometimes good timing works out. CN (EJ&E) 3023-CN3112-GEXR 3393 pass through Beamsville Ont on the Grimsby Sub. The GEXR SD40-2 was an added bonus. It already went West from Buffalo to Mac Yard and I was told it was supposed to go to the Huron & Eastern in Michigan, but looks like someone decided to send it back to the Buffalo & Pittsburgh. I'm sure it'll be back bouncing around Southern Ontario. This was my first time seeing the 'J' heritage unit.

Finally, they decide to run 2816 on my day off. Headed out to a nice open spot at Dalemead Alberta. After a bit of a wait for a few freights, the 'Empress" 2816 finally appeared doing track speed heading from Calgary to Medicine Hat.
