Sweating the assets, old dog CN 9592 has an impressive 70 car L531 underway out of Port Robinson with mostly autoracks for NS at Fort Erie and autoparts and mixed freight for the B&P at Lackawanna, NY.

The Maple Leaf stays in Canada this day. Due to "Snowmageddon" having dumped 6+ feet of snow on the Buffalo, NY area over the past 2 days, rail service (and everything else) has ground to a near halt. Amtrak has suspended all service between Albany, Cleveland, and Toronto. Unable to enter New York, here we see VIA 97's equipment in the process of wying at Clifton, operating on the freight-only Stamford Sub in the process. It will then back into the station to await departure as VIA 98 in the evening. I'm surprised they didn't just bustitute. A few years ago this move was a daily occurance for VIA 95 (to become the next days number 90 (or 92 on Sunday)), but now the usually through Amtrak connections are the only VIA service.

Shortly after the local CN crew cleared into the yard and tied up for the day, the southbound Northlander departs Huntsville passing the beautifully restored freight shed. Love the "heritage" 1805!

Ex-NJT GP40FH-2 4144 is charging out of Montreal with train 23. At the next station this unit failed, and the train continued on with only F40PH 330 shoving on the rear. All of these units were quite tired after long careers and would soon be replaced.

Hearing that the CN Capreol to Sudbury turn had a unit to lift in Sudbury, I decided to wait. It turned out to be a long wait since the first crew outlawed before departing, but I was glad I stuck it out. The unit lifted was one of CP's two gensets, always problematic, and this one is headed back to NRE Capreol for work.

The slow dismantling of the CN in Niagara Falls continues. The yard was completely removed several years ago, and now the north track is being removed piece by piece east of the plant at Clifton. Road reconstrution in the area will likely reduce the Grimsby Sub crossing at Church's Lane from three tracks (south main, north main, yard lead) to a single main (all that's in service now).

A new addition, and no doubt pride of the fleet, leads this daily transfer from the NS in Buffalo to the CN in Fort Erie. I can't believe that of all the class 1's, NS would allow hand spray-painted cab numbers! The trailing SD40-2 is also ex-HLCX, but has been repainted.

CN L562, the dayshift Port Robinson switcher, is leaving Resolute Paper in Thorold, passing a long-disused gate house. Usually this trackage is operated by the mill locomotives, but they must be down for the count today.

CN A422 slows as it enters Niagara Falls passing through the Stamford neighbourhood from which this subdivision takes its name. The third unit is a recently activated ex-CREX, nee-UP C40-8 still in UP paint.
