A Tuesday after a holiday weekend....eastbound 148 with a pair of NS GE's trailing. This pic was easy..out the front door..up the hill...point and shoot. Not sure why they needed a fence built when the tracks were separated by a large berm. Highway 403 in the background

Well. 421 was pulling through the lead about 750 am when the Oakville yardmaster observed from the camera some cars going sideways. Crew alerted..the brakeman walked back and reported 4 cars on the ground...same spot of previous derailments.

Answering to Sir Ricky Host's call for some real winter..here we have CP 255 eastward on the Oakville Sub with two rent-a-wrecks trailing...even some ocean containers on the head end....a real bone chlling bitter cold windy day.

It's getting to the end of a cold Sunday - early in January 2009...the stock market was plunging, trains were getting shorter...and in a few days, Sully would make his miracle landing. A small rerouted G872 grain train switches from track 2 to 1 at Snake - and heads east.

Just looks like another ordinary shot...the hogger seems to be focused and concentrating on what's in front of him.....wait a second...who is that ?? Rumour has it they let him out of Mac Yard with a DPU although we havent seen it in person..... yet.... :) Also rumoured he hates 2000's series units leading ( we wont say what the next unit on THIS consist was ) Story has that he prefers to run up the Operating Ratio by turning his power at any wye...no matter how far away..instead of changing ends... Any guesses?

"2 cars Starlight"...."1 car Starlight"....."ease er up Starlight" . CP's Starlight - the 70's Toronto - Hamilton turn periodically lifted CP 520XXX series 89' container flats at Obico. I have no idea where they were destined...there was no container on/off facility on the TH&B...but engineer Smokey Anderson - hand on the throttle...stoagie in the other hand...carefully makes the joint. In a few minutes....the train will call the CN for permission to proceed down to Canpa for the short run to Hamilton.

CN 6060 and CN/VIA FPA4 6785 power this Saturday July 26 1980 National Railway Historical Society excursion through the Don Valley and up to Washago and back down the Newmarket Sub. Dad and I had along with us - this day - the late J David Ingles, the then managing editor of Trains magazine.

We're aboard CP GP35 5012 - today it was leading the "Starlight" - CP's daily Agincourt Yard to TH&B Aberdeen Yard turn- back in the 70's. Legendary Hamilton pool hogger Frank "Smokey" Anderson looks into the late afternoon winter sun, heading westward, somewhere on the CN Oakville Sub with a look of disgust...as the CN, once again, isn't co-operative with green signals. Smokey was a regular on the "Kinnear", the "Starlight", "Extra Hams" and Acid trains...and his distinctive voice was unmistakable one the radio. Back then, as the train would pass through curves...the tail-end would be heard on the radio "all black on the south side Starlight" meaning they couldn't see any potential hot boxes/sticking brakes.

Well...there I was wandering around the Queen Street area...looking for a different angle to shoot after the usual Spadina Road shots of the roundhouse stuff. I was in position to shoot a WB VIA on the Weston Sub but it was looking like, at the time, another mundane RS18 leading. Out came the Parkdale Operator with some trainorders for train 169.....Well...I think I've got my shot here ! You may notice the conductor with his head leaning out the back....probably much to his delight.

here the excursion rolls along ex L&PS trackage...I have this marked as "near" St Thomas, not sure if north or south but am guessing it's just south of Sparta Line...as on google it shows as the only road going over the tracks.

Here on another runpast...I had a front row seat in the RDC...from Google maps...I could only see 2 trestles..I am guessing this is just north of the wye in St Thomas; It appears now subsequently rebuilt as a cement bridge over the highway.

We're on an Upper Canada Railway Society excursion from Toronto to Port Stanley ON. Here...on one of the runpasts taken from the bridge on Sparta Line...we're looking north at Union Station. Just west of Union ON. On google maps...it's still there.
