Ex. CN GP40-2 8011 now under the ownership of Rocky Mountaineer Rail tours, leads the By weekly RMR eastbound into Banff. Once all passenger have disembarked, the consist will continue onto Calgary for the night to be serviced, turned and ready for tomorrows departure.

This train is not an easy one to photograph. Due to the dark blue paint, you have to make sure to get your settings right. This photo is probably the best out of close to 100 I've manged to take over the past 2 months between both Jasper and Banff consists.

The back Story:

On my travels through the Rockies, I made a stop at Field BC. I managed to find a good spot just west of town and waited for a westbound to arrive. One did eventually arrive, but an Eastbound Grain beat it to the crew change spot. The prized westbound was blocked from view.

I decided to not to let the shot go to waste, and the above is the outcome. all railfans will snap photos of the head end power, and we take the rolling stock for granted. Here in this photo, are cars that have seen several thousand miles of track, and show their age. The "Canadian Wheat board" or maybe known as "Trudeau Hoppers" have been an icon of Canadian grain trains for decades. On my travels I have heard rumours that by 2037, all of these hopper cars will be retired. If these rumours are true, it will be strange not to see these cars grace the rails.

Ontario Southland RS 18u 181 pulls away from the PDI Bulk chemicals plant with a string of empty tank cars and hoppers, heading back to Guelph Jct. after a day of switching.

It appears that the wooden bridge crossing the Eramosa river is up for repair, since the bridge piers are marked with orange markings indicating sections requiring replacement.

6167 now sits on permanent display right across from the station, over shadowed by cloudy skies. I'm glad that the locomotive is now open to be viewed by all. great for photographers since we now don't have to deal with a fence.

VIA 85, lead by P42DC 918 kicks up some snow as it approaches Mile post 47 of the Guelph Sub. Radio chatter was constant on this day due to track repairs between mile post 65 and mile post 82 of the Guelph sub.

VIA Rail Canada GE P42 DC 910, leads VIA 82 through the city Dundas, during the first light of the day. VIA 82 is on route from Windsor to Toronto.

I photo opportunity that i have been waiting for. Rs18u 181, M420 647, and Rs23 505 lead a cut of hoppers into Guelph form Cambellville. There is no better sound then the roar of Alco engines piercing the silence following several blasts of the horn from a friendly crew who had noticed that they were being photographed.

GEXR 432 lead by a newly painted GP38-2 locomotive 2303 and SD40-2 locomotive 7369, crosses the Edinburgh railway crossing with a slow order through Guelph (Mile 52 - 48 Guelph sub.) The crossover here that would connect both the south and north tracks together has been some what dismantled. The frogs on the south track have been removed. However, talks between the City of Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge, Guelph and GO transit for increased, 2 way all day service. It is quite possible that the south track through Guelph will be revitalized, and a double track system will be built to Kitchener, and out to towards Acton.

VIA 669 is tied down at Guelph Central station after unloading 500 Montreal Alouette fans,then turning around at the Guelph wye. VIA 669 will return to Montreal later that day as 663 and will arrive in Montreal around midnight.

GMD 1u 1412 along with GP9RM 7025, work the yard job at Aldershot on a warm sunny May day. On this day there were three GMD 1u locomotives moving between Aldershot and Oakville yard. GMD 1u 1412,1444,1437. this in my opinion is a great catch for any railfan.

VIA 67 hammers the Dundas Sub coming off the Oakville sub. VIA 67 is on route to Windsor by the Dundas Sub.
VIA 67's consist is lead by GE P42DC 915 and five Budd hep 2 coaches.

CN 255 carrying mixed freight notches straight to 8 at the bottom of the hill near the site of the old Dundas station. 255's power consists of CN SD70M -2 8964, and CN ES44AC 2329. Over the radio we heard that within the hour, five other trains would be in the mile 48 block. It turned out to be a quite an interesting show.

A Goderich Exeter mixed freight passes Venture Heights farms just outside the Guelph city limits. I'm glad I finally managed to get this photo off my bucket list. I was given a friendly greeting from the crew as they noticed me on the side of Hwy 7.

VIA 87 lead by refurbished F40PH-2D 6443, coasts into Guelph on a Monday evening. VIA 87's consist is made up of 4 LRC coaches. one of which has been painted in the new teal green with two yellow stripe on the car body. It's nice to see that most rail crews are friendly towards railfans.

One of the last runs of the Northlander. ONR 395 "Northlander" lead by GP 38-2 1801 carrying a DPU, three coaches and a dinning car, approaches Bracebridge. awaiting the Northlander is a platform full of Train fans and photographers. Once passengers have boarded, it will continue on its way to Toronto. 2 days later, the Northlander will be nothing but Canadian rail history.
