The best looking GE's on the roster, in my opinion, were the first group of Dash 9's with the full Canadian cab and the "peeling paint" logo. (Unfortunately, that group is looking at little, if not very ratty these days.) On this day, #2510 looks real good cruising the banks of the Thompson River

My good friend, the good "ole -2" continues to generate a dollar or two for its owner. Here, 5824 rests at Ashcroft, BC on a warm summer's night. If this motor could think or speak, he would look across at the GEVO's and AC's speeding by and would say "I used to run like that."

The noses no longer meet. The Canadian no longer call on Calgary, the FP7's are history and the SD's have been banished to the hinterlands. Still, it's good to look back and remember better days.

The "changing of the guard." The SD's had not yet been put out pasture despite the legions of GE's invading what had been a bastion of GMD/EMD since the early days of dieselization. One thing that has not changed are the majestic mountains that surround this wonderful place.

Another scene that cannot be repeated... The SD's no longer pull coal, the big tree has been gone for years, the natural grass is now an hay field, the Shaw Springs Restaurant across the road has long been closed awaiting a buyer that will never come. The towns and businesses along the Thompson and Fraser Rivers continue to dwindle, their populations leaving for greener pastures and the road traffic that sustained now travels to the east on a super highway....

A rare combination especially for the "West." 2 MK rebuilt SD45's (SD40R) leads a pair expatriated UP SD40-2's across a tributary of the Thompson River. Unfortunately, these days are gone.. Now legions of GE's have taken up the task.

Snow is rare for Vancouver but Roy Jennings was able to catch something even rarer. The GMD FP7's demonstrating on the Canadian Pacific. While built by EMD at La Grange, the units eventually were sold to the Soo.

Back in the day, the Great Northern ran several trains each way between Vancouver, BC and Seattle. Here, GN 1457 heads south after crossing the Fraser River Bridge. As they say, those were the days. Thanks to the late Roy Jennings for capturing the once common event.

The sun is putting out its last rays of the day as CN 2243 leads mixed freight including dimensional loads eastbound on Canadian Pacific rails at Chaumox. For any fellow fans who might find this spot, look back in the trees where one will find an old, nearly forgotten, grave yard. It latest markers are from the early 1940's. There is no town, no longer any residents save for the occasional bear or deer that abound in the area.

On the afternoon of July 9, 2011, we were witness to an extraordinary event involving the crew of CP 8772, the RCMP and the paramedics based in Ashcroft, BC. A woman had fallen off a rather steep incline above the Thompson River, onto the roadbed and was severely injured. Happening on the scene was the crew of a wesbound manifest who managed to stop in time to render assistance. The RTC contacted the authorities and made arrangements for the crew to meet the emergency personnel approx. 1 mile west of the accident scene. After cutting the units from the train, the headend power shuttled the RCMP and paramedics to the location. After stabilizing the patient the entire party was transported on the rear unit to an area in order for the patient to be airlifted from the scene. The crew later received commendations and the story was featured on the company intranet news. The professionalism on the part of all concerned was second to none.
