Comments on: 20 Locomotives on a train? Not something that happens too often and I wasn’t able to go for the last big move around here. My last big one was 15 units on The Wabash transfer in 2015 back when GE Erie made new units. But what’s pictured above is a funeral train of units for scrap or re-sale. Sold in a June 2023 auction, SLM recycling has reportedly purchased a total of 46 locomotives (to be confirmed) and this was the first batch to arrive. One engine in this group, BCOL 4618 was on this train, but wasn’t part of the auction and was moved in September 2023 and donated to the Alberta Railway Museum. Have any others escaped the clutches of scrap? I heard a rumour another has been sold but not confirmed.
I managed to follow this silly train for the day and visited my parents in between waiting for 562 to depart, Arnold can vouch that the weather absolutely sucked but…I don’t know when I’ll get another chance at this. Maybe when the Dash 9′s are retired en masse :)

Neat shot.
Does seem to anyone that third gen (or fourth!) locos do not survive today as long as the first / second gen ? Or has the accounting rules changed that much so the companies can write off (depreciate) units quicker?
