Comments on: 3 former NAR SD38-2′s lead the eastbound wayfreight from Elgin to Winnipeg via Morris past the north end of Pelican Lake. This line was built by the Northern Pacific in 1889, subsidized by the Manitoba Provincial Government to break the CPR’s monopoly on interprovincial traffic allowing grain to move via Emerson-Noyes to Duluth-Superior harbours. In 1898 the line was sold to the fledging Canadian Northern.
Existing sections are the Emerson to Winnipeg and Winnipeg Portage Lines. The Line from Morris to Brandon and a branch to Hartney were abandoned from the 1970′s with the last section from Elgin to Morris abandoned in the noughts

My grandparents used to take me camping here in the mid 80's. The campsite was across the road about where the last car is. Was a elevator somewhere there too. Never saw a train pass at the time , thought it was abandoned by then.
Great photo , brings back good memories.
