Comments on: A beautiful day and location for a mid-morning meet between VIA #2 The Canadian, and a hot-shot CN double stack. Jones is a cottage dotted, heavily forested, part of northwestern Ontario on East Lake between Farlane http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=49924 and Favel. The dwarf signal at mile 105.8 would be green in less than a minute after this photo signaling our permission to leave the siding and continue eastbound after a perfect meet.

The higher mast on the dwarf (low) signal definitely get the signal head up where it can be seen better and from a greater distance. The colour light signal head, hood, background and LED modules sure help improve visibility of the signal. When I was last over the Redditt Sub. in 2009, Jones had a Spring Switch (SS) on the west end, one of three remaining on the Redditt Sub. Back then you would have held the main and that long intermodal train would have been through the siding, most likely though you would have been put in the siding at Farlane for a not so perfect meet, with an opportunity for a photo of the station.

Love that 8' high dwarf signal. It reminds me of the 10' high one that was at the west end of Capreol yard for several years.
