Comments on: A chance encounter en-route to pick up a dog with my family near Goderich, keeping the scanner on paid off as I heard something switching near Clinton. With 13 cars in tow and after working the Junction to lift some cars, 581 is enroute toward Seaforth and possibly Exeter on the Exeter Subdivision while OPP Clinton Detachment #9 passes by looking for their next victim. I’d get one more shot on the Exeter Subdivision as they blast south at.. a blistering 10 MPH pace. Talk about some of the slowest subdivision track out there… and yes, the Exeter Spur is back to a Subdivision as per signs posted on crossbucks and timetable!

BTW folks, this unit, 3510 was transferred to the Guelph Junction Railway. Seems it's tenure on GEXR Goderich was very short.

Stephen, yes it is the same line, CN yard switchers stationed at Spadina took over when steam ended, but speed didn't change. Like the name Star, and you are noy the only one outnumbered in your household, Sandy (wife) and Candy (small dog) run my life -grin and bear it, John

Stephen, always loved trains crossing over old railway bridges ! What a nice picture, wonder how many “single lane” railway overpasses in “active service” are left in southern Ontario ? And the pumpkin orange 3510 with its colourful yellow pilot lights up the picture beautifully. Now as for the “fast paced” 10mph, that’s nothing compared to the old CNR belt line from Fairbanks Jct to Yonge St speed of 5 mph ! If your dog got scared by the waddling 0-8-0, it could out run it going in the same direction. At least this branch line is still in service, no matter what the speed limit. Thank you for posting, John. PS, what is the dog’s name ?
