Comments on: A CN work extra, with S1b-class Mikado 3252 (built by Canadian Government Railways in 1917, scrapped November 1959) is pictured at Lorneville Junction in August 1958.

Lorneville was the junction point between CN’s Coboconk Sub (Blackwater to Coboconk) and their Midland Sub (Lindsay to Midland). Much of the old Coboconk Sub (and the eastern portion of the Midland Sub) were abandoned in the mid-1960′s, leaving Lorneville without any rail service less than a decade after this photo was taken.

Bill, great picture bringing back good memories! Interesting that it looks like 3252 is hauling track work extra with one of the track gang peering out the door of the 3rd bunk car. If I remember correctly, there was no interlocking tower at Lorneville Jct. with train crews lining up switches and interlocking signals manually, much the same as at Washago (pre-CTC). Any idea where the train was heading to/coming from ? Thanks very much for sharing.
