Comments on: A pair of 1957-built GP9′s CP 8707 and 8705 are at rest, apparently outside the roundhouse at CP’s Lambton Yard (SW corner of Runnymede & St Clair) on 14 January 1962. The back of 1959-built SW1200RS CP8145 is also in the picture.
Complaints about coal smoke emanating from the Lambton roundhouse lead to the installation of large numbers on the smoke jacks. Presumably the smoke problem ended with the retirement of the last of CP’s steam engines.

A good chunk of CP's later GP9's (8681-8708) were originally eastern-assigned units during dieselization, until more MLW RS18 units were eventually purchased and the Geeps sent west. Photos suggest they did show up from time to time in the east after that.
