Comments on: A pair of Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range Railway SD9′s, 169 & 149, handle a westbound freight on the new “bypass” portion of CN’s Halton Sub at Halwest in March 1966. Of note, trailing behind the power is a Canada Southern (CASO) lettered triple hopper. The Halton and York Sub trackage between Halwest and Pickering was constructed on the suburban outskirts of Toronto in the early-mid 1960′s (completed 1965) to divert freight traffic around the top end of city, freeing up track time downtown to allow GO Transit train service to commence on the Oakville/Kingston Sub rail corridors in 1967. http://www.railpictures.ca The BEST Canadian photos on the Internet, eh?
