Comments on: A piece of history…
CN M305 powers up underneath the searchlights at CN Liverpool in Pickering Ontario. These searchlights have now been replaced by LED “vaders” as of February 7th, 2021; so this shot is now impossible. A great artifact of Canadian railroading, watching these signals disappear is sad to see, but I’m glad I was able to make it out there before they were gone for good.

I have operated so many trains under these signals over my years as an engineer that I have lost count. The searchlight signals are still my favourite style and I like them way better than the new style. Luckily there are still a few kicking about, plus ones i see at the side of the tracks that are taken down and rusting away :-(

Wish I could have found the time to get some shots in there while I could. Lots of memories seeing those signals since I grew up pretty much a couple blocks north of there. Great shot!
