Comments on: A rainy day down at the Burlington Beach lift bridge finds CN RDC-1′s 6106 and 6111 crossing over the Burlington Bay Canal on CN’s Beach Subdivision at Hargrove, likely doing a photo run-by for the Upper Canada Railway Society fantrip they’re on. CN’s Toronto to Niagara Falls Budd “Railiner” RDC runs typically operated through Hamilton via the Oakville-Grimsby Subdivisions, so a pair on the “Beach Branch” wasn’t a common occurance. The QEW’s Burlington Bay Skyway bridge is visible jut behind. The CN Beach Sub from Burlington to Stoney Creek, originally a through-route for the Hamilton & North Western Railway, was soon severed due to mid-70′s QEW freeway construction, and short spurs were operated at each end until abandonment in the early 80′s. The two tracks that crossed the Burlington Canal lift bridge were replaced with extra traffic lanes. Gord Taylor photo, Dan Dell’Unto collection slide.
