Thanks bcr_766. Bon Accord is such a sore point. I may have mentioned this previously. 2, if not 3 times, while on the way to Edmonton and passing through Bon Accord, the job that switched the elevators was in town. The crying part is, those last couple of times, it was sunny and they were using a pair of 1600′s for power. But, no camera.

Gosh, such a great photo!!! Being from the area is such a delight!! You are correct regarding the 60lb section, originally abandoned from here (pictured) to Bon Accord first. Then in 1991 it was abandoned from Bon Accord to Carbondale. (this section was used for storage until 95 then finally ripped up)

Sorry Paul, I should have been more clear, this is an empty unit train of sulphur hoppers on the way up north. They will back the next afternoon with 35 loaded ones. You are very correct about the grade. The connecting track in 1985 was at most a couple of years old. The construction of the connecting track allowed the abandonment of many miles of 60lb rail on the Lac La Biche Sub.

I only ever saw one other person taking rail photos in the Redwater area. I only saw that photographer the one time. To be quite honest, most people thought I was a little nuts. Really, who takes pictures of trains? Heard that a time or two.

A perfect little train. Those F’s must have been quite the attraction back then, or were they? Seems the fans loved coming to Hamilton when they were on the steel train, did the travelling fans make it to Alberta too?
