Comments on: A slide I took late December 1981 or early January 1982 while on a day trip railfanning with a friend. I had never been to Cabin D and I might have some of the geography wrong but sort of figure it was a junction point just west of Bathurst St for the CN Oakville and Weston subs. I understand that Cabin D was preserved and on display at the Toronto Railway Museum, at the old John Street Roundhouse.

Please feel free to chime in with the correct location of where this image was taken and info about the operations there.

There was a train order operator in Cabin D. I worked for a few months on CN in Yard service before quitting & going to CP, If the trainman's spareboard was exhausted, they would call a Yardman. I was called one night for an Oshawa Turn out of Mimico. We used 3 passenger units, an FPA4, a B unit & a dual control Tempo RSi8. The cab unit was leading eastward & I was told to catch the train order hoop at Cabin D. I missed it. That was the first time I had seen a hoop. Over the years at CP, I saw plenty though, and only missed 2 that I recall.

The white building in the background was Quality Meat Packers (formerly the Toronto Municipal Abbatoir. The plant was in operation until 2014), but the stacks belong to the City of Toronto's Wellington Destructor beside it (one of their garbage incinerator sites).

Yeah, this would be in its original location just west of Bathurst St. bridge, before it was moved a year or two later (circa 1983) to make room for more tracks through the corridor. I think they also upgraded all the old manual interlockings around Bathurst St. around that time as well (or maybe a few years later, I've seen shots of the then-new Bathurst St. interlocking control board located elsewhere).
