Comments on: A string of retired veteran CN ore cars is shown awaiting their fate at the S Yard in MacMillan Yard in Vaughan, Ontario. The hopper cars were in the 344000 series, and most were over four decades old, having been built during the mid-1950’s.

Imagine the industrial and agricultural history that those hoppers passed.

A shame we lost mines like this in Ontario though – great you were able to capture their resting place.

These cars were used to ship taconite pellets from Bruce Lake Mine to Thunder Bay a distance of about 300 miles on a daily basis, until the mine shut down in the late 1980′s

Sad. Our family rode behind these cars on a Bellville to Marmora ore train excursion. These cars probably finished service on the stone trains out of Uhthoff.
