Note the &#8220;Canadian Pacific&#8221; sign on top of the building. I think that might have been a recent (at the time) addition (Or, maybe, I did not notice it there before &#8211; a very likely scenario).</title>

The VIA unit is likely backup power, CP probably got tired of having to supply power (or was unable to spare any power) to a crippled &quot;Canadian&quot;, so the solution seemed to be to have an extra unit on hand. 
When VIA operated the RDCs from Calgary to Edmonton (aka the Deathliner), these units were regularly serviced at Alyth.</description>
