Comments on: A typical Sunnyside scene: CN SW1200RS units 1219 and 1213 lead an eastbound freight (maybe a transfer from Mimico to Don or MacMillan Yard) past the old disused Sunnyside station platforms on a sunny afternoon. Traffic appears light with a number of cars pulled over on the shoulder for some reason, and two young spectators with their parents take in the lineside action. A TTC PCC (one of the 4725-4774 ex-Cleveland A11-class) heads east on the Queensway just outside Roncesvalles Carhouse (out of view to the right), with St. Joseph’s Hospital looming in the background.

Original photographer unknown, Dan Dell’Unto collection slide.

Dave_k that makes sense! I figured it might have had something to do with the annual CNE, but couldn't quite put my finger on what.

Brundle: a lot of those SW's seemed to find their way all over the system. Some were regulars out of certain terminals for years or even decades.

A possible reason for the cars pulled over as the date given is September. It could be for the CNE Air Show which would have been viewable from that point. The show ran for the last weekend of the Ex from !:00 PM to 4:00 PM and often caused drivers from out of town who were unaware of it (and some locals who were) to pull over and watch.

Fantastic scene. Interesting ties to Edmonton, our buses at the same time were red and cream. In just a few more years the 1219 will be serving as helper on the Calder hump with 1220 and 1221 as mothers.
2 thumbs up. :-)
