Yes that slauhterhouse had quite the smell of death making its way up to Bathurst and Richmond where we rehearsed music. I remember the trucks…driving along Lakeshore stopping at the lights and looking over the the truck next to me and seeing a pig looking straight at me. Only a km away from it’s demise. @awmooney…yes lots of development. And we were lucky to live next door to the construction of a brand new condo…oh the noise!! But also got to witness the UPX in its trial runs. No freight trains though. One could only imagine what it was like back in the day.

@Larry..that red brick building was a slaughterhouse for pigs. The land at 2 Tecumseth St. and 125 Niagara St. was previously occupied by Toronto Abattoir and Quality Meat Packers. The business closed in 2014.Over 6,000 pigs were processed there every day.
Fun fact..Toronto got the name Hogtown because of an article in the Globe in 1898.

I do find one link to an older past in the face of the red brick warehouse on the extreme left. It looks like it has been there awhile. Most structures in the photo have the look of being recently built. Neat seeing the trains taking the people to and from downtown.

Larry, when I used to go down there I cannot recall a single highrise on the right side of the tower as it is in this picture.

For these tired eyes this shot is unreal. All that development!!! The bridge and the Tower is about all I can remember from hanging around down there.
