Comments on: After arriving in the town of Palmerston on the north leg of the old wye, CN GP9RM’s 4140 and 4115 would shove the rail train into the empty yard and by the CN Palmerston station, which at the time was virtually sitting abandoned as well. From there, the units would uncouple from the front, run-around their train in the yard and then couple to the opposite end to await the final leg of their trip to Harriston. From Palmerston, they would shove the remaining five miles into Harriston on the Owen Sound Subdivision. Seen from the town’s historic Pedestrian Bridge that spanned the entire yard, the final train it will ever see is about to roll in front of the Palmerston station as several local people came out to take in the event as well.

Thanks Marcus. I don’t remember exactly what the ballast was for but you might be right about the crossing gaps. Ironically the ballast cars had “Branchline Rehabilitation Service” stamped on them.

Wonder what the ballast is for? Definitely not the track, maybe filling in gaps at crossings temporarily. Such a sad sight, wish I had been out for this one. Nice image ????
