Comments on: After bringing 67 cars of interchange back from CN, CSX 6505 and 2757 are seen here crossing Clifford St. before ending their day near the engine house in the background. The CSX Sarnia Sub. has some new local power, in the form of two GP40-3′s numbered 6505 and 6547 (6547 is in the background sitting between GP38-2′s 2570, 2799 & 2561). GP38 variants have been the main local power here for CSX for decades, so having a couple of GP40′s around is certainly interesting. There’s also a new customer along the line, as CSX is shipping out scrap from Ontario Hydro’s Lambton Generating Station in Courtright. There were 12 Aim Recycling gons in there today, and they are supposed to be switched 2/3 times a week.

Forge has been taking in cars now since the winter/spring. I’m not sure as to how much they are using rail, but they’ve had at least 6 cars on their property in the few times I’ve been by this year. Yesterday however, nearly every inch of the 4 sidings there were packed with tank cars.

I guess it’s just a roll of the dice if they go to Sombra or not.. as needed as they’re the only customer out that way right now. there seems to be no one else using rail.

Last I heard (November) they were running to Sombra on Sunday afternoons. Doing Hydro then.

CSX actually PSR’ed Sarnia. They are down to two units now. That’s it. Two units and one crew at a time, a day shift and afternoon shift and some days (weekends) nothing at all except maybe an extra.

They’re down to like 6 employees total…

In 2005 they called about 25 crew members per day for daily trains… (for all Sarnia, Chatham and Detroit/Windsor turns)

A friend informs me 2 units were sent away for work recently, hence why the GP40′s were brought over. So they are down to four units again.

It’s new technology also, if it doesn’t take off they may not use rail for a while, if at all. Although the demand for renewable fuels is rising, there’s a trackmobile there and they have room to expand. 6 cars a week does seem to be more traffic than Methes ever got, I wonder if they’ll receive any loads of anything by rail too.
