Comments on: After CP closed the deal on the CMQ in June 2020 it didn’t take too long for some of the SD40-2F’s to roam the system, but surprisingly after a flurry of action in June they have hardly led anything around here since. These are a favourite of fans, likely on account of their uniqueness being a SD40-2 cowl, only purchased by CP and well, they continue to survive in 2020 while most other cowl’s newer than them are gone (CN’s SD50 and 60F’s prime examples). After leaving the house at 0500 to intercept this train on a strong hunch I’d be stupid not to go out for it, and not knowing until 0545 that the CMQ’s were indeed leading. I ended up landing here at 0630 and waited about 20 minutes for the train to come with this photo taken at 0647. Worth it – I’ll shoot these SD40-2f’s as long as they last, as Neil Young once said “long may you run”. Indeed.

Nice shot, Steve. I am not sure I will ever come down from the rush of that morning.

Yeah Arnold, the TRE sat there for ages, much like the CP SD40-2s they sent across several months prior.

And it sat for quite a while in Welland. Something to do with messed up paper work. I think it was there at least 2 weeks. Nice of you to dig out this classic, Hostie!!

IIRC It was rebuilt at CAD in Montreal and heading back home. The unit was set off @ Welland before they went across the border.
