Comments on: After meeting NS 327 at Duff an hour earlier, NS 369 is preparing to depart Fort Erie with 94 cars with a pair of ex Conrail engines in the lead. I’m amazed how fast Conrail paint was eliminated by NS shop forces making me miss these blue things even though I found them awfully common at the time.

And an interesting anecdote I observed on this day, when crews called the NG dispatcher entering the US they identified as “Wabash” trains. A real throwback as the Wabash name was still used on CSX’s dispatcher display, despite having been merged into the N&W in 1964.

Michael the best summary of my thoughts is this:

In 2005, you chased a ATSF leader as it was by far much more rare

http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=23212

Now, ATSF is still around and CR paint is gone..

Who would have thought - lesson is shoot everything, but you just don't know what's going to be rare 10 years from now..

Michael, compared to other railroads, CN still has IC paint 18 years later and GTW paint. BNSF has plenty of ATSF and BN schemes since 1996's merger and there should be many remaining for some time to come...

there arent any CR survivors except perhaps some sold to Shortlines.... so it's the speed of total elimination of it.

And CSX was indeed faster..

Doesn't seem fast to me, Conrail split up in 1999 and I still saw blue units on NS into at least 2010. CSX repainted all of their blue units before NS I believe.
