Comments on: ALL DONE – in more ways than one.

First, it’s the end of the shift, for the crew. After running to Thamesville and Blenheim, both GMD1 1412 (pictured), along with 1444 (hidden) are shoving their small cut of cars to park at the end of Merritt Ave. They will be picked up by CN 438 in the evening.

Second, it would be the following year that these old units would be retired. I would be lucky enough to see 1412 one more time, that summer again as power for 514.
Thankfully, one unit (ex-CN 1437) was donated to the Waterloo Central Railway. With a fresh coat of paint in traditional green and gold paint scheme from the 50s, it’s renumbered as 1012 (Stephen C. Host photo).

Nice "mood" image. Sad to see those old GMD1 units gone. I was rather surprised to see at least 5 of them on the Northern Plains RR in North Dakota recently. Hopefully the NPR will find the means to get them operational.
