After spending the next several hours slumbering away at the junction the unit and its train will begin its gradual journey out through western Canada. The 7304 has seen many changes during its lifetime, from shedding its as delivered Lehigh Valley paint so many decades ago, to being transferred to the D&H as part of the start up deal with Conrail. Today it is one of only two D&H painted units left on CP’s roster, and if it ever goes through a rebuild before retirement it will trade its classy D&H paint for CP red. Many changes have also taken place at CP’s Guelph Jct. over the past several months including the removal of the track the 7304 is sitting on as well as the erection of new signals protecting both the Galt sub as well as the Hamilton sub.
