Comments on: An abbreviated “Super Continental” is arriving in Edmonton. The Domtar facility is still intact at this time. They applied creosote to ties there and pretty much became a Canadian equivalent SuperFund site. After the razing of the structures, a giant tarp was put over the mound of contaminated soil and debris. Groundwater was pumped out and treated or burnt. That went on for well over a decade. The land is still not developed, but housing abuts the site to the east and west. The train is on the Wainwright Sub and has just crossed the high bridge over the North Saskatchewan River, just beyond the set of signals seen in the background.

Hi Steve. This photo was my desktop at work for sometime. The 6519 is one of my fav engines. Took my wife and eldest son (he was 6)for a day trip to Jasper and back in 1985. When boarding the train to return home the Conductor asked if my son and I would like a cab ride. A very firm “YES” from both of us and we enjoyed a cab ride all the way to Hinton. Still a very vivid memory for my son. Your picture is almost 2 years to the day after our memorable trip. Thanks for posting.
