Comments on: An assortment of TTC subway equipment gathers by the shops at Davisville Yard at night in the Summer of 1963, as seen from the still-active CN Belt Line Branch bridge spanning the yard. The brand new 5300-series MLW M1′s were only aluminum subway cars on the property at the time (the first H1′s wouldn’t arrive until 1965), and they’re mingling with the original “Red Rocket” steel Gloucester “G” cars built in the 1950′s, dating back to the 1954 opening of the Yonge line. The University subway line had opened earlier that year, and “St. George” on the rollsign reflects the new western end terminus of the combined Yonge-University line (no Spadina extension until 1978). Yellow-painted work equipment lingering around includes RT-4, former Peter Witt streetcar 2528 converted for garbage collection on the subway, and an unknown dump car behind (possibly RT-3).
