Comments on: An eastbound Canadian National freight passes through Mimico East on the Oakville Sub, with CN RS3 3019, F7A 9082, and GP9 4560. Only the F7A is in the new “1961 scheme” introduced two years earlier (the cowl unit version of which featured zebra stripes instead of CN noodle logos on the side). Also note how the leading RS3 and trailing F7A both feature white extra flags.

Maybe 3019 is an assist engine up to Danforth or Port Union. The 1960 rules book says “When two or more engines are coupled, over all or a portion of a subdivision, each engine will display signals as prescribed by rules 20 and 21. Rule 20 is green signals for all sections but the last, and rule 21 is white for extras.

I’d guess the exact location is on the south side of the tracks along Manchester, across from where Audley and Newcastle meet. Checking some 1962 aerial imagery, there’s a factory or two on the south side that had rail sidings, and the old crossbucks by 4560 probably hint to this.

Those Pacific Fruit Express reefers could be seen on several downtown sidings and yards into the late 1960′s. I’m trying to figure out what street the car (looks like it might be a Vauxhall) is traveling on. Great Period photo.
