Comments on: An eastbound freight with 3 big Alcos from MLW coming through Bayview Jct on June 28, 1986 with brake shoes still smoking after descending the escarpment. We thought the setup was kind of odd with the 3 cars in front of the dead-it-tow switcher. The next time we saw the train on the north side of Toronto (one cloudy shot wasn’t going to be enough for this one), the box cars had been set off.

Thanks for the added information. I found a 3rd shot of this train that I have labeled just as 'East of Burlington', well before we caught it up by Mac yard. The reefers had been set off somewhere in Burlington. Did (does) 392 terminate in Toronto? Where does it originate? In June, its doubtful there would have been any useful grapes for wine, but I assume some other perishable.

Very early DPU, Steve.

So many classic elements here... the big MLW's, the white 'running extra' flags, brakeshoe smoke coming off the hill, two tracks at Bayview, end cab switcher, searchlight signals. heck, even those 'Solid Cold' refers. Wonderful image, Dave.

It's got to be 392. The three lead reefers would be set off at Malport or Mac Yard, for downtown/West Toronto delivery full of grapes for wine season.
