Comments on: An interesting detail – note the exemption and export notice on the right side of the ‘builder sticker’ of CN 2969. Why is it that EMD is not able to perform similar manufacturing for export for Canada. Would EMD not be desperate for some business given the lack of Tier 4 availability? Discuss below.

With so many run-through trains nowadays, I’m surprised CN has bought units tied to Canada. I wonder if some will slip into the U.S. anyways.

They’d have to operate the locos only in Canada, and CN & CP (who operate in the US too) would naturally want locos that could operate into the states. A few Canada-only units aren’t that big of a problem, but otherwise it would create motive power headaches on trains heading from Canada to the US.

Well from what ive heard emd wants to meet a tier 4 standard no matter what. I think there currently work with up to build a teir 4 loco.
