This was still in the train order era &amp; it was somewhat unusual to see eastbound trains running extra) excepting work trains or the Chatham Turn from London, as they originated in the middle of the Subdivision. Even the 500 series trains at this time, were usually a section of another train such as 904. The other thing about these 500 series trains,  often the crappy SOO units were placed in the lead. The CP units had better seats, ditch lights, they were warmer in winter &amp; didn&#039;t have the all too common unpleasant odour of the SOOs interior.  To quote the late Bruce Chapman, they usually &quot;smelled like urine&quot; inside.</description>
