Comments on: Another operation of the past in this area is the Triple Crown trailer train. Apparently it was no longer deemed an efficient operation. Here is the westbound Toronto to Detroit #145 as seen at Paris Jct behind CN 5411, an SD50F, NOT the 5411 seen these days, which is a newly acquired SD60. The locomotive featured in this image was retired within a couple of years and dealt off to the Dakota, Missouri Valley & Western, along with a handful of others of this series.

Thanks for the summary, CdnTP. And to Docta, when I read your comment I didn't even think of 142/3 either. After all, they run thru the backside of Niagara.

A little bit of Topic Drift Gentlemen:
It was September 2015 that NS announced they were going to close the Triple Crown Services.

"Norfolk, Va. - Sep 18, 2015
Norfolk Southern Corp. (NYSE: NSC) is restructuring its Triple Crown Services (TCS) subsidiary to focus on the transportation of automobile parts. The railroad will work with shippers and logistics partners to convert other business handled by Triple Crown Services into Norfolk Southern’s current intermodal network."
Arnold's picture is therefore historic like so many others of his.
One of the issues with Triple Crown is that the trailers had to be special for the service. They couldn't be used in the general pool offered by motor carriers. I believe that motor carrier SWIFT tried a Road Railer service that was shortv lived too. The CP eXpressway Service is the only one that handles trailers of most kinds over the rails.

Excellent shot of the RoadRailer. NS is shutting or has shut that division down in favour of domestic containers.
