Comments on: Another scene involving CP’s Nanticoke Steel train, this time in West Brantford. Leased GP38′s 4807-4809 are sneaking their way out of the tree cover at Gilkison Street, with the remainder of the train still on the Grand River bridge and beyond. These unprotected crossings were not used to daytime moves until this train began to operate on a semi-regular basis. Ironically this group of engines would end up being the ‘domesticated’ power for use on CSX Canadian District after 1988.

What an incredible site for me. I ‘drove’ that lashup in front of Chatham yard likely in that immediate timeframe as a 10 year old. The mechanic saw me watching railside beside my house and invited me up into the cab.

I always wondered what those iron poles were sticking out of the ground around Brantford. Seems like over kill for no trespassing signs.
