Comments on: Another set of the diamonds, but not “the” diamonds: the rear truck of GO cab car 237 clatters over one of the diamonds for the CP connecting track at West Toronto, that connected the MacTier Sub to the North Toronto Sub. Our train, GO #252, has just cleared Old Weston Road crossing on the double track CN Weston Sub and is still crossing over the actual diamonds with the double track CP North Toronto Sub (out of view to the south). CP’s MacTier Sub mainline can be seen on the far right. In the distance, both CN tracks become one at CN Keele. Looking north, one can make out the old platforms for the former CN West Toronto Station, finally demolished only 8 years ago. The fenced-in area where the station and express building once were was home to a compound lot used for storing snow removal equipment over the summer (the equipment was owned by Westridge Agriculture, which had one of the city snowplowing contracts, and they had rows and rows of old Champion and Wabco graders parked here). The building on the left was National Rubber Industries’ Cawthra Ave plant. The Andrew Merrilees yard was just out of view on the right. Judging by the machinery and pipes, there was some sewer or water main construction going on. Today, the old station grounds are gone, the connecting track is still there, but it now goes over both CN mainlines that have been grade separated into a giant trench below.
