Comments on: Another view of a southbound VIA over the big Trestle at Parry Sound, yes, but to this photographer it is a special image. Thus, a favourite. It IS a beautiful sky day. I was aware of the train’s approach, so I went down to the town dock and had a look around for a spot to shoot. And eyed the Island Queen, the 30,000 Islands tour ship. It was not yet into service as it is still early spring in cottage country. But there it is, and nothing but a chain to keep anyone from climbing aboard. So I climbed over, and scurried up to the top deck, and set up tripod & mount the camera. All I had to do was sit and wait in the cold on shore wind and this photo was the result. It is a nice view of the north side of the harbour as it looked back then. For the record, the power is VIA 6511 and 6636. What is unusual is the camera. At least in the world of digital this Anniversary Speed Graphic camera is a relic. I am using a Military Version,(circa 1942) coated in olive drab finish (although if one googles same, it is ‘unsubstantiated’?) This is the first photo of 800 to RP I have submitted scanned directly off the 4×5 inch colour neg, and shot with Vericolor III film, 160 ISO. Set at 200 f11. Back in 1986, this film, a box of 10 sheets cost $17.99, so already, before we even shoot we are out $1.79 per shot. Then it is $2 per sheet processing and $9 per image to print. So at $13. per photo, I am careful. But back in this era, this press camera in quality imagery in my mind could not be surpassed.

It does look great printed large. And it is LARGE format film, rather than the medium I usually shoot with. Rather than a roll, it is 10 flat sheets to a box, loaded individually in a dark room to film holders.
