Comments on: Approaching Mile 94.3 and the old Zorra station, this trio of GP35s is making great time as it hits the Zorra 35th Line crossing heading west. The track in the foreground is part of what was the old CP St. Mary’s sub, which connected the town of St. Mary’s to Ingersoll North. There was also a lead to what is now the LaFarge Cement plant. All that remains of the St. Mary’s sub is a spur that runs off just out of view on the left. Power on this train is CP 5016, 5007 and 5004; all of which went to HELM in 1998.

Don’t start me off, Stuart.:o) A long time ago the Sidekick and I were coming home along #2 (Lakeshore Rd) in Oakville after photographing the CP Bramton Sta, and I had to stop because a step-van in front of me had stopped to turn. I was hit from behind by a girl driving her bosses new Buick. Step-van lost his step and one set of tail lights. The Buick’s rad was crushed back into the motor and it was really a mess. I was in the middle yet suffered only minor dented bumper on the front and afew scratches and flat bumper on the back. Collected $500 insurance yet never needed to fix the car. The 1976 version of the Cougar was like a tank. No wonder only in the open highway did I get as much as 12 miles to the gallon.

I was pretty sure it was the Mercury version. In 1985 I married the owner of a 1978 Cougar XR-7. True land yacht! One night in an unlit parking lot I ran over a cement parking curb. Didn’t hurt the Cougar at all! Try that in a Prius!!

That was a ’76 Merc Cougar XR-7, Stuart. A real gas hog. But it went everywhere and back again, for most all of the photos pre-1991.
