Comments on: As a wayfrieght trundling along thru the countryside, this image has “yesteryear” draped all over it. It is something we just do not see any more. The view is on the Winchester Sub just to the west of Perth, Ontario, and the venerable old CP ALCO S-2 #7025 is on its last legs. Built in 1944, the unit was scrapped at Angus barely over a year after this photo was taken. The end came in early June of 1982.

You're so right, Mr. Dan. That engine did not rumble along like you would expect. It rattled.
I used to love the sounds, and taped a lot of them on old mini-cassettes.

Steve, a lot of those old Alco/MLW switchers were purchased in the 40's and 50's, and were becoming a bit long in the tooth and underpowered for the heavier freight cars and longer trains being run. CP introduced a rebuilt program in 1980 to phase out all their old switchers with more modern yard/local power (rebuilt CP GP7u/GP9u units).

West of Perth would be the Belleville, but I think that's indeed where this is. With Hwy 7 on the right, the pole line is in the right place. The granite outcrops in the field are not something you would see east of Smiths Falls as that area is a limestone plain. This spot looks like a good fit:

Arnold, I'm confused about this location. Perth is on the Belleville Sub & if I recall, the double track portion of the Belleville Sub was "singled" between Glen Tay & Elmsley before 1981. The train seems to be on the main track, because that's where the welded rail is. It is possible though, if it's double track, that one track has yet to be upgraded to CWR.
