Comments on: As CP Extra 5610 North sits in the siding at Rutter, Ontario, VIA’s southbound Canadian, probably # 10 at the time (my VIA/CP time tables and memory elude me at this time) flies by on the main line. Notice the conductor (brakeman) hiding in the bushes to give the passenger train its roll-by. This track was ABS territory at the time. It was really unusual(to me) to see the freight waiting in the siding looking at a Clear (green) signal; only to have it turn to red (stop) when the passenger train entered the block. Then about 10-12 minutes later the Canadian appears. As soon as it cleared, the signal turned green and the freight proceeded. Power on the Canadian was 6553 and 6653.

This looks suspiciously like the same location where the engineer (or conductor?) walked up to the switch and had a heart attack. I keep thinking it was the engineer, early evening back on June 22, 2003 as steam #2816 was returning west.
This crossed my mind seeing this photo as I gave up the chase at Rutter, on account darkness.
